At the heart of MACCA, we are preparing to celebrate one of the great creators of our country: Maximino Javier, an Oaxacan artist whose work is a vibrant tribute to the land, tradition, and the joy of life.
Originally from San Juan Bautista Valle Nacional, Oaxaca, Maximino has built a solid international career since 1978, with exhibitions in prestigious venues such as the Galería del Instituto Francés de América Latina, the Grand Palais and the Musée des Monuments Français in Paris, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Arts Workshop Gallery in Chicago, and the Aldaba Art Center in Madrid.
His work is part of major collections, including the Continental Bank in Chicago, Phillip Morris Corp. in New York, the Mexican Museum in San Francisco, the University of Iowa Museum of Art, Banco Nacional de México, the Byer Museum of Art in Chicago, the Contemporary Art Museum in Montevideo, and the Ben Nordemann Collection in New York.

As a founding member of the Rufino Tamayo Printmaking Workshop, Maximino Javier is considered one of the most established artists from Oaxaca. His work is known for its poetic, colorful vision that blends the legendary with the popular. He portrays local characters, landscapes, rural life, music, and traditional scenes. Sometimes he faithfully represents Latin American culture; other times he reinterprets its stories freely to create a unique symbolic universe.
From his native community of Santa Fe y la Mar, emerges a visual language that fuses modernity with nature, rooted in a way of life that honors the earth and its rhythms. His art is a celebration, an introspection, and a deep connection to cultural identity.
Today, some of his works are already part of the permanent collection at MACCA in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, and very soon we’ll be presenting a special exhibition of his work in our new temporary gallery under construction. This exhibit will give the public a chance to experience Maximino’s universe—rich in emotion, history, and color—up close.

We are deeply grateful for his generosity and for joining this collective effort, driven by artists from around the world. We warmly invite the entire community to be part of this cultural dream: the first contemporary art museum in the state and the region.
Come and join the celebration of art!
Because at MACCA, art is shared, celebrated, and lived.
